Director of Clinical Services Dallas Children's Advocacy Center
Disclosure is a process, not an event, and as an MDT, it is our job to have insight so that we may appropriately respond to the clients through that journey. In this presentation, you will learn about the stages of disclosure and how the stage a child is in impacts the forensic interview process. You will also learn how the stages of disclosure can impact a client’s presentation in therapy, which may alter treatment recommendations. The role of the investigation and a client’s healing journey are separate, sometimes colliding paths, and both can be impacted by the child’s willingness and ability to disclose. We also will be discussing the Dallas CAC forensic interview and clinical services response.
Learning Objectives:
Gain a greater understanding of internal and external factors that impact disclosures
Distinguish the purpose of a child’s disclosure in the forensic interview process and the goals of therapy
Broaden awareness of how the disclosure process impacts forensic interviews, therapy, and court testimony
