Children’s advocacy centers strive to ensure children are connected to opportunities to heal after a traumatic event occurs. However, how do we know which children need therapy? How can we engage with families to ensure immediate needs are met and informed recommendations are made? Family Advocates offer a unique set of skills that can be used to engage families, assess for immediate needs, and connect families to the most appropriate resources to aid in this healing process. In this workshop, Family Advocate Screeners from the Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center will share the purpose of screenings and provide attendees with tangible resources/processes that family advocates can utilize at their own centers.
Learning Objectives:
Identify why family advocates are uniquely positioned to administer screenings for trauma symptoms
Learn how to develop a screening process that identifies which clients would benefit from Children's Advocacy Center trauma therapy services
Gain an understanding of how to collaborate with multi-disciplinary team members to effectively match clients with the most suitable services for their individual needs
