This workshop will talk through case examples where medical information can be used to inform or enhance the invetigation of maltreatment. Cases will include patterned injuries (burns and bruises), head trauma, and abdominal trauma. Discussion of what a provider can say with medical certainty and the limitations of that assessment. Understand what the medical team might need from the home/scene investigation to better inform the medical opinion. Come learn how to talk to the medical providers, ask better questions, and get the best answers possible to aide in your investigation.

Asses patterns of skin injury that can be helpful in identifying mechanism of abuse/ injury
Define elements of photographs that are important is conveying information to medical providers
Undertand limitations of the medical evaluation and how communication among agencies can overcome some of those limitations
