Forensic Interviewer/Program Director Child Advocacy Center of Jackson County
This presentation will focus on information regarding how children tell about their life events to include abusive and traumatic experiences in a child forensic interview setting. The presentation will discuss the process of manipulation that children, families and communities experience prior, during and after their abuse. Barriers and facilitators to disclosure will be outlined and explored. Information regarding the disclosure process and how this impacts a child's ability to talk about abusive events will also be examined. Further, this presentation will address recantation and how multidisciplinary teams might best respond when this happens. Finally, participants will have an opportunity to see examples from forensic interviews demonstrating how the disclosure process unfolds. This two-part presentation will allow for an in-depth examination of the disclosure process with the second session focusing on a case review of a recantation.
