Attendees will be provided with a discussion concerning the prevalence of extortion in the U.S. and abroad, which focuses on current statistics, media reports, and what investigators are battling during current investigations. The workshop will examine ways to identify and recognize victims of sextortion based on research and law enforcement case studies by defining various types of sextortion and what social media apps are being used to groom or entice children. The presentation will explore how sextortion is tied to suicide and abuse based on the psychology behind a victim’s thoughts and fears while being manipulated and controlled by the offender. Additionally, the presenter will also focus on the proper steps and techniques available to law enforcement to properly investigate sextortion cases by utilizing search warrants, subpoenas, and collecting digital evidence necessary to locate and detain a target.
