This workshop is designed for investigators assigned to investigate complex criminal investigations. The presenters will expand the attendee’s basic knowledge of obtaining and understanding digital data to uncover suspects and crucial evidence. Digital and electronic records have become one of the most prevalent and ever-changing pieces of evidence pertaining to criminal investigations. The presentation will address the following topics: techniques used to obtain location data; reverse location searches (tower dumps/geo-fences); Internet Service Providers (ISP); social media records; voice over internet protocol (VoIP) and cloud storage. Lastly, the presenters will discuss search warrant standards pertaining to electronic data records.

Develop a better understanding of using location services from cellular communication providers and internet service providers to locate criminals
Obtain a better understanding of technology readily available to investigators that they may not know exists and could be crucial to their investigation
