This session will examine the challenges across the child welfare and law enforcement systems responding to children missing from care and explore opportunities for a coordinated, multidisciplinary approach to improve outcomes. Through recorded interviews and case studies, this session will provide a child-centered lens and examination of the gaps in understanding as well as successes that show optimal collaboration and use of NCMEC’s specialized resources to find children missing from care. This session will also incorporate interactive exercises about language, mission differences, and ways we can improve access to resources for these cases.
Learning Objectives:
Understand the differences between system needs and language in order to promote optimal collaboration and communication in the course of locating missing children
Learn the potential resources that can be accessed for children or families when they go missing from care and how systems can optimize such resources
Demonstrate how specific endangerment information and details may be critical to recovery, yet may be overlooked when making initial reports of missing kids
