The presentation is a workshop for interviewing sexually exploited persons. It is trauma-informed, victim-centered, and will discuss issues related to victims and provide development and planning/structure for how to conduct a successful interview. Attendees will learn how to enhance their interview abilities by learning tactics and tools to elicit evidence and gain cooperation, detect trauma responses during the interview process, and navigate resistance. The presenter will explore the trauma experienced by victims, the importance of developing trust, and understanding the effect trauma can have on victims, as well as the reactions and triggers they demonstrate during the interview and while working with them. The importance of multiple interviews and late disclosure of certain aspects of victimization will be explained. The presentation will also cover self-care for investigators working on sex trafficking cases and the impact. The instructor will utilize audience participation and provide case examples, including audio and video recordings, to illustrate the points being made. The conclusion of the presentation will be a glance at what a successful outcome to working these cases looks like.
