This presentation discusses when it is appropriate to conduct a knock and talk, what to wear, the ideal team, planning considerations, use of polygraph, and legal considerations. The art of the knock and talk is based on rapport-based interview strategies, that can be used during a knock and talk or enforcement operations and highlights the psychological differences between child sex offenders and other criminals and how to use those differences to your advantage to not only secure a confession regarding possession/distribution of CSAM but to uncover hands-on offenders. Many of the ideas presented highlight common pitfalls that even seasoned investigators make in child exploitation interviews. Additionally, the presentation covers more nuanced ideas on how even an introvert can build confidence and become a great rapport-based interviewer.
