Trauma informed care and survivor informed care are key to successful outcomes. Understanding how to properly utilize survivors in the work that you currently do will be discussed. This session will provide investigative tips from a sex trafficking survivor who is now a forensic nurse and private investigator working undercover with traffickers, buyers and victims both stateside and international. Key into what is commonly missed and examples of what can be done better moving forward. Understand the language and secrets of the world of trafficking and exploitation to best work with trafficked victims, beginning with what draws them into the game to begin with. Understanding healthcare implications, identification and next steps in the healthcare setting for trafficking victims is key for all members of the multidisciplinary team. Prosecution and advocacy strategies from a survivor’s perspective will be addressed as justice is the end goal for all of us who work with children. The crossover of domestic violence, sexual assault, strangulation and sex trafficking will be discussed as strangulation is a key part of potential prosecutions and life saving interventions.
