This workshop will explore basic communication techniques that are reliable, legally defensible, effective, and accommodating for children with autism spectrum disorder who are alleged victims of abuse or neglect. While this workshop is intended for forensic interviewers, other members of multidisciplinary teams may benefit from attending this workshop to better understand biases and assumptions related to investigating cases involving child victims with autism. Abuse dynamics, possible indicators of abuse or neglect, pre-interview considerations, question types, and other information on eliciting reliable information from children with autism will also be discussed.
