Director of Forensic Services Dallas Children's Advocacy Center
Every advocacy center differs, but one thing we all have in common is the diversity among our clients. All forensic interviewers face many challenges on a daily basis, but bilingual interviewers encounter cultural barriers that might not be so easy to tackle without consistent feedback in peer review. It is critical that Spanish speaking forensic interviewers from all over the world come together to address the unmet needs in the interview room of Spanish speaking children. As forensic interviewers, we have an ethical duty to provide the highest quality interview and meet the language needs of the children we serve. This forum will bring Spanish speaking forensic interviewers together to discuss current trends and challenges when interviewing Spanish speaking clients.
Learning Objectives:
Discuss best practices when conducting Spanish speaking interviews, and learn techniques to provide culturally sensitive, linguistically correct, and forensically sound interviews
Review and share current research and developments as it pertains to interviewing Spanish speaking clients and cultural issues/challenges in the field of forensic interviewing
Discuss and staff any special issues that have arisen with Spanish speaking clients, partners of the multidisciplinary team, and court preparation
