Increasing positive outcomes for survivors in investigations and advocacy is our common goal. But our policies and practices can sometimes cause more harm. Complex PTSD created by long term exposure to child abuse, neglect and household dysfunction creates cognitive, emotional, social, relational, medical and spiritual challenges that impede investigations and sabotage recovery. Traffickers and other predators exploit the victim's circumstances these challenges create. This session discusses those challenges and trauma informed approaches to addressing them so you can improve your outcomes with survivors.
Learning Objectives:
Understands complex trauma is created from chronic exposure to adverse childhood experiences and it creates vulnerabilities predators exploit
Determine if current investigation and advocacy practices create more harm and increase the likelihood of future victimization
Develop new trauma informed approaches that work with survivors with complex trauma to improve outcomes for survivors in investigations and advocacy
