Child sexual abuse material and commercial sexual exploitation cases warrant federal restitution evaluations. This workshop will explain why these particular types of cases merit additional medical assessments to justify financial analyses which will reflect direct and indirect costs of care over the lifespan of survivors. These assessments often are repeated at intervals in a survivor's lifetime. Often the researched lifetime cost of care is below what would be expected. The steps in evaluating direct medical costs will be discussed and examples of what these reports entail will be provided.
Learning Objectives:
Discuss the importance of federal victim restitution funds in sexual exploitation cases
Review how survivors should be assessed in a trauma-informed manner to ensure that medical and psychological symptoms are directly related to the specific victimization
Discuss how technology-facilitated sexual victimization leads more commonly to Complex PTSD and its associated sequela
