This workshop will examine the relationship of the investigator and prosecution team, and guide law enforcement in techniques to support the prosecution to maximize the effectiveness of jury trials involving child victims of sexual and physical abuse. Suggestions will be offered around creating a corroboration checklist and other activities that can assist prosecutors in navigating pitfalls. In addition, we will discuss the role of the investigator during both voir dire and post-trial activities.
Learning Objectives:
Learn the importance of maintaining communication with prosecutors early in the post-arrest period and conducting periodic file reviews and status of evidence and reports.
Examine the role of the case “to do” list as it relates to witnesses and corroboration of the victim’s statement.
Learn techniques regarding voir dire and observer of what witnesses say from the stand.
-Learn the post-trial activities including engaging jurors following a verdict.
