Attendees to this workshop will learn how to be successful in the interview room with criminal suspects. Child abuse investigators are uniquely challenged with interviewing suspects in delayed outcry sexual abuse cases. There is rarely physical evidence, witnesses or video like other criminal investigations. This presentation introduces a four-stage approach which includes the following: understanding how child abuse suspect's think; interview of supportive parent after the forensic interview; and a science-based approach to interviewing the suspect and conducting the interrogation itself. The attendee will learn how to plan their interview, contact the suspect, ask questions, detect deception, present evidence and conduct the interrogation.
